Our Story
你好，my name is Connor (my Chinese name is 陆康威 Lùkāngwēi). I am the founder of Chinese4Free, and I currently study Chinese as a senior in high school. In creating this course’s free curriculum, I wanted to provide other English speakers with the tips and tricks that have made me a straight-A Chinese student.
In my experience, learning Mandarin has lived up to its reputation of being notoriously difficult; however, I truly believe that learning Chinese holds countless benefits for students looking to prepare for international travel, challenge themselves academically, or appreciate thousands of years of cultural history. While the Chinese4Free course is tailored to American school students like myself, language learners of all ages and backgrounds can benefit from the resources in this site’s introductory lessons!
Our Course
This course contains all of the tips, tricks, and techniques that I wish I could have known before attending my first Chinese class. In addition, Chinese4Free provides the necessary foundation that will elevate a student’s language skills far above those of their classmates.
For this course, we will be focusing on the rudimentary vocabulary, grammar rules, and writing techniques that serve as the building blocks for learning the Chinese language. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of speaking in Chinese, with an emphasis on the basics of reading and writing before pronunciation. Speaking ability is always easier to improve once a new learner is confident in their reading skills. After all, it is impossible for a student to orate a passage or answer listening questions in class if they are unfamiliar with the vocabulary.
Furthermore, the Chinese4Free course will teach students to read and write simplified Chinese characters because the majority of high schools in the United States utilize this modernized version of written Mandarin.
Our course provides four free introductory units covering a variety of topics like typing and completing assignments in Chinese, basic Chinese vocabulary and grammar, and numbers, dates, and times in Chinese, with more material to come in the future!
